How to Build Confidence Using Your Spiritual Practice
Updated: May 8

Do you imagine what it would be like to walk confidently through the world? Head held high and asking for what you deserve. This doesn’t have to be a fragment of your imagination. It can be a reality once you learn how to build your confidence using your spiritual practice (even if you don’t already have one.) As a spiritual guide, I love helping my clients create sustainable spiritual practices that will nurture their spirituality so that they can start showing up as their authentic selves. Here are 5 practices that you can easily incorporate into your life today.
1. Use Affirmations
Believe it or not, there is programming within you that stops you from living confidently. This has been instilled from a variety of sources such as society, your friends, and even family members. Something within you tells you that you aren’t enough, that you are doing something wrong, or that your goals are always out of reach. When starting your confidence journey, it’s important to get to the root cause of your lack of confidence before you start building your confidence. That’s like slapping a band-aid on a major wound. It’s never going to work.
This is where affirmations come in handy. They reprogram your thought patterns by replacing negative thinking with positive thinking. Every time you catch yourself giving into non-beneficial belief systems, replace that thought with a confidence-driven one. Ask yourself, what is the belief system that keeps coming up? Does it stem from unworthiness, regret, or self-sabotage? Give yourself the opportunity to shine a light on what’s holding you back.
Once you’ve made space for awareness you can then reprogram your thinking using one of these affirmations or one of your own. Give these a try:
I am enough.
I define my worth and I am worthy.
I only speak positively about myself.
I silence my inner critic and affirm that I am enough.
I am unapologetically beautiful.
TIP: If saying any of these feels icky because you don’t fully believe it yet, replace the beginning of the affirmation with “I am willing…” then make necessary adjustments.
For example, instead of “I only speak positively about myself” switch it to “I am willing to only speak positively about myself.”
You will slowly begin to build up your belief in that statement.

2. Trust in the Universe
Confidence in oneself also stems from the trust you have in the Universe as we are all made up of source energy. When you feel as though you have to do everything by yourself, you isolate yourself in a box of disillusionment. An important part of your journey to building a foundation of confidence is to realize that you don’t have to do it all by yourself as you naturally have the Universe by your side. Begin by leaning on the Universe. When you find yourself starting to worry about knowing every single step in front of you, affirm that there is a divine plan for you. By doing this you are learning to surrender, letting things unfold naturally without the desire to control.

3. Know that Success is Your Default Mode
I’ve shared a mini-training on this before and intend to do so again. Success is naturally your default. When you are born into this world, you are mostly spirit at this point because you haven’t grown accustomed to the art of being a human. You haven’t yet learned the conditioning of society. You fully believe in your abilities. Someone once said this is why babies will ALWAYS learn how to eat, walk, and potty train. There’s no belief in them that they couldn’t. They don’t just fall when trying to learn how to walk and say, “you know? This isn’t for me.” Every time you feel yourself beginning to doubt your abilities, take a deep breath and remind yourself that it is your birthright to be successful. The Universe fully supports your journey and encourages you to return to that childlike state of unwavering belief.
4. Choose Love Over Fear
There are two main energies of the Universe- love and fear. Love is the highest vibration of all and is deeply aligned with Source whereas fear is the lowest vibration and is the most disconnected from Source. When going about your day, make an active decision to choose love over fear. When it comes to confidence, this means choosing loving thoughts about yourself, choosing to align with your life purpose and the Universe, and doing acts of self-care rather than self-sabotaging actions such as continually eating unhealthy foods, and overindulging or nurturing unsupportive relationships. How are you showing up for yourself? Are your actions aligned with love or fear?
5. Embody Feminine Energy
Everyone has feminine energy within them regardless of their gender. This energy is free-flowing, intuitive, and nurturing. When working on increasing your confidence, step into your feminine energy by slowing down, noticing your breath, and following through with an intention in mind. Feminine energy will help you take note of your needs and to prioritize them. Our body, mind, and soul is always sending us messages; we just have to be open to listening. How can you nurture yourself today? What will you learn when you slow down?

The path to confidence is more so about uncovering all that is already within you. You are never without the confidence you are seeking in yourself and in the Universe. It’s already there, covered by limiting beliefs just waiting to have a light shined on them. Give one or more of these tips a try and let me know in the comment section how it worked for you.
