There are moments in life where everything seems to fall apart. The things that you once loved no longer bring you joy. Whether it be hobbies, relationships, or points of view. This feeling builds and builds until you reach an earth-shattering breakthrough. This time in your life is known as a period of cleansing. It’s the moment where everything comes to a dramatic ending before a new day has dawned.
What Is a Cleansing Period?
A cleansing period in one’s life is a time when cycles are closing, and you are energetically preparing to welcome a new phase of life. This is a chance for you to take inventory. How do you feel about your life? Who or what is dragging you down? What do you want more of? What do you want less of? Ask the big questions and take action to keep the ball rolling.
A cleansing period in your life is common during times of big transitions such as divorce, changing jobs, the death of a loved one, or moving. If you are familiar with tarot, this time in your life can be represented by the tower card.
*Cue chills down your back*
When my clients receive the tower card during a reading there is an automatic sense of dread. But fear not, although the card may look frightening, it is more about breakthrough rather than total destruction. It is no coincidence that you feel this overwhelming feeling of your life falling apart because energetically it is. You are releasing all that no longer serves you and that feels scary as if you’re losing a part of you. But the reality is that whatever you feel as though you ‘lost’ will always be replaced with something better.
Signs That You’re Experiencing a Cleansing Period in Your Life
You are questioning your relationships.
Your social media feeds no longer feel inspiring. It feels useless.
Your clothes just don’t ‘feel like you’ anymore.
You find yourself reflecting more often.
You find yourself daydreaming more often.
Your schedule feels unsatisfying. Too many things to do and not enough that bring you joy.
How To Navigate This Period of Cleansing
Surrender to the Process
A period of release in your life demands your attention. It is completely unavoidable. Your life demands to be re-thought out whether you want to or not. The best thing that you can do throughout this entire practice is to surrender to the process. Learn to accept that this time of transition can not be halted or postponed you just have to go through it. I have a whole article about surrendering that you can read here.
When shit hits the fan it’s easy to fall into the trap of complaining. I get it, your life literally feels like it’s falling apart. So, during this time practice a little reverse psychology by doing the opposite of what you feel. Instead of complaining about all that is falling apart, express gratitude for all that you do have in your life. An important law of the universe is like attracts like. So, with that in mind, the more you express gratitude for what you have, the more good things and support that the universe is going to send your way.
An important part of release work is forgiveness. Often, we hold unforgiveness and anger in our hearts causing us to become bitter and to have a hard time moving on. A cleansing period takes place in our life so that we don’t have a chance to dig our feet into the ground in an effort to avoid it. The Universe has spoken. It’s now or never. Ask yourself: what are you holding onto that is negatively impact you? Who do you need to forgive? Forgiveness is not about giving any excuse for what someone did or how something unfolded; it is an affirmation that you are no longer letting it control you energetically.
A more active approach that you can take during this time of releasing is to physically cleanse as you energetically cleanse. After all, they are both intertwined. A burning ritual is a good place to start. Write a letter or a list of the things you wish to release in your life. Then safely light it on fire and watch the flames dissolve your worries. Although it may be a little cold out now when I’m writing this, now would be a great time for a bonfire. Another idea is to physically cleanse your space.
Something that Feng Shui (the art of creating harmony energetically in your environment) teaches us is that your life affects your environment and your environment affects your life. As you are cleansing your life, you can also cleanse your space to make room for the new coming. Now is a great time for a deep cleaning or purging session where you can donate or throw out anything that no longer brings you joy.
When life seems to be falling apart, you must remind yourself that this is divinely guided and great things are coming soon. The best thing that you can do is to not fight the process but instead go with the flow. Now is the time to surrender and do your own work to build a healthy future.
